Harmful water softeners being banned
Most consumers don't realize that water softeners don't filter the water, all they do is make hard water into soft. They replace the calcium & magnesium your body needs with salt or potassium. This produces a water that feels "slimy" and contains too much salt to drink.
Even worse, water softeners pollute the environment. That's why California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed Assembly Bill 1366 (AB 1366) into law.
The law will make it easier for regional water and wastewater agencies in California to impose local bans or restrictions on water softeners.
Why did this happen?
Because local governments want to reduce salt discharges from water softeners into local wastewater streams. Water softeners discharge unwanted salt to natural water supplies...which hurts the environment.

Harvard University test about chlorine in your home's water
Chlorinated drinking water has been linked to small increases in the rates of rectal and bladder cancer in a new analysis by researchers at Harvard University and the Medical College of Wisconsin. The findings, reported The American Journal of Public Health, are drawn from a combination of 10 previous studies. Using statistical methods, the researchers found that the slightly higher rates of the two cancers seemed to correlate with the amount of byproducts produced by chlorinated water. The authors calculated that it accounted for 6,500 cases of rectal cancer and 4,200 cases of bladder cancer in the US each year.
